Upload a file Automatically through FTP

The command line option of FTP provides a switch, -s, to specify a text file of ftp commands for running automatically. A batch file is therefore can be used to automatic the FTP operations by taking FTP as an internal command.

FTP Commands File

A ftp commands file can be created from a batch file by writng the output to a file.  For example, a ftp commands file, ftpcmds.dat can be created by

echo user UserName> ftpcmds.dat
echo UserPassword>> ftpcmds.dat
echo bin>> ftpcmds.dat
echo cd %2>> ftpcmds.dat
echo put %1>> ftpcmds.dat
echo quit>> ftpcmds.dat

FTP Batch File

A ftp batch file can be used to create a ftp commands file and then activiate the ftp command together with the create ftp comands file. For example, a ftp batch file, ftpup.bat, can be created by embedding a ftp command.

@echo off
echo user UserName> ftpcmds.dat
echo UserPassword>> ftpcmds.dat
echo bin>> ftpcmds.dat
echo cd %2>> ftpcmds.dat
echo put %1>> ftpcmds.dat
echo quit>> ftpcmds.dat
ftp -n -s:ftpcmds.dat ftp.ServerName.Com
del ftpcmds.dat

Runngin a FTP Batch File

The FTP Batch File can be called together with the file to be uploaded and the directory of the uploaded file to be saved.

ftpup.bat r:test.txt temp
