Installation of Hyper-V on Windows 8.1

Client Hyper-V is the name for the virtualization technology that was introduced in Windows 8. Hyper-V in Windows 8.1 is used to replace those older virtualization applications from Microsoft, including Microsoft Virtual Server, Microsoft Virtual PC, and Windows Virtual PC. However the version of Hyper-V provided with Windows 8.1 does not support nested Hyper-V and the "Hyper-V Platform" will be grayed out.

The Hyper-V program used in Windows 8.1 is designed as an optional "Windows Feature". In other words, Hyper-V can be installed through turn on the "Hyper-V" feature in "Windows Features" window.

1. Open the "Control Panel" window from the "settings" charm of the right edge charms bar. Click "Programs" to open the "Programs" window
2. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" under "Programs and Features to open the "Windows Features" window.
3. Click the checkbox of "Hyper-V" to turn on the default features of "Hyper-V" feature.
4. Click button "OK" to confirm the installation of "Hyper-V" services.
5. Only the default features for a static-content web server are installed.
6. Click button "Restart now" to restart the computer for completing the installation.
7. Enter "virtmgmt.msc" to the "Open" field of "Run" window to open the Hyper-V Manager.
8. Click button "OK" to open the "Hyper-V Manager.
