Sgn Function

Create an integer to indicate the sign of a given number.

Syntax

Sgn(number)

Argument

numberRequired. Any valid numeric expression

Returns

Returns a Variant of Integer data subtype containing the sign of a given number.

Return Values of Sgn function:

Special returns of Sgn function:

Remarks

  • The return value of Sgn function is determined by the sign of a given number only.

Abs Function

Syntax

Abs(number)

Argument

numberRequired. Any valid numeric expression

Returns

Returns a Variant of the same given number data subtype containing the unsigned magnitude, or the absolute value of a given number.

Special returns of Sgn function:

Remarks

  • The absolute value of a number is the unsigned magnitude of a number.
  • always returns a positive number including zero except for a Null expression.
  • an uninitialized variable is a valid nurmeric expression, but an empty sting or a space character is not a valid numeric expression.
